Anyone has experience with the communicatio between robots protocol aka AS-4 JAUS? Please take a look at http://www.openjaus.com.

I am interested to use this protocol between my command centre and my robot. It looks a bit hard to implement but also looks fun.

Roel,

I have used it but only a little. Take note that it was going through some transition periods where they stopped supporting it.

Its being managed by these people now http://www.sae.org/servlets/works/committeeHome.do?comtID=TEAAS4

How are your experiences with it? Is it hard to implement? Do you think it is a good base for the communication or is it a little bit overkill?

Roel
Well it all depends really. Does your project require the use of this protocol? If this is just for hobby or experimentation - i would say why bother going through all the effort. Many of the controllers youll interface with use standard serial - basically sending commands to the controller or acting on information sent from the controller.

I would say only to implement it if you absolutely need it. Otherwise, keep it simple so you can get the most out of your project.

Hope this helps...

It is not necessay and it is a nice to have. Priority 99 of 100....
Do you have any pictures or videos of what you are working on? Would like to see what you are planning or what stage you are at..
Got no pictures yet because there is not a lot to video or photograph :-) It is still in a very early bèta fase, like 0.01 or so and most is on paper. At the moment money is the biggest issue because the Wild Thumper is not cheap but very good so willing to pay for it.

Main goal with this project is to get experience with robots and programming them. I like the idea of unmanned verhicles and that what I will mainly focus on.

It will be equipped with sensors like GPS, temperature, humidty, IMU etc. Also wireless accessible with ZigBee, WiFi and 3G. And the robot is programmed in .NET as well as the Control Center.

I already bought the Qik from pololu to drive the Wild Thumper and it has lit her lights already :-) Now developing a class to control the Qik from remote by ZigBee.

So work in progress. Nice you are interested, thinking now about a blog at RUG :-)
