A microcontroller (also microcomputer, MCU or µC) is a small computer on a single integrated circuit consisting internally of a relatively simple CPU, clock, timers, I/O ports, and memory.
Microcontrollers are used in automatically controlled products and devices, such as automobile engine control systems, implantable medical devices, remote controls, office machines, appliances, power tools, and toys.
Microcontrollers are used in robots as the primary hub or interconnect between all the robotic components (motors, sensors, components). Optionally, an embedded PC and/or PC connect to the controller typically through a serial interface via USB or RS232.
